Super Simple Tips for Making the Best CBD-Infused Latte
One of the latest health and wellness trends is CBD-infused coffee, which involves adding some of your favorite CBD oil to a caffeinated drink. Among coffee drinkers, the average American drinks 3.1 cups of coffee per day; we live in a high-powered world where we work at 100 miles an hour, and drinking coffee is a way many of us cope. On top of that, this sweet, energizing drink tastes delicious and becomes a craving for many of us. The vast number of artisan coffee shops popping up all over the country show just how much we love coffee.
Combine the delicious taste of coffee with the wellness-inducing benefits of CBD, and it’s surely a match made in heaven. Lattes are one of the most popular kinds of coffee, made using streamed milk – it’s a much milkier version of a cappuccino – and many CBD users are finding ways to mix their CBD together with a delicious latte every morning.
Rather than re-mortgaging your house to pay for an overpriced CBD latte, though, why not make your own at home? This is an idea that many coffee-makers are interested in, and we are here with some handy tips about how best to combine your CBD with your lattes. Read on to find out what’s involved with combining CBD and coffee, how to make your own CBD lattes, and find two coffee-free recipes for a delicious CBD latte without the caffeine.
CBD and coffee: What you need to know
Cannabidiol, usually called simply CBD, is an active compound from the cannabis plant. Unlike some of the other active compounds, known collectively as cannabinoids, CBD is non-psychoactive and won’t get you high.
People take CBD oil to keep their mind and bodies balanced, but a lot of consumers really dislike the strong, distinct taste of CBD oil, which is quite earthy and leaves a lot to be desired. However, it is possible to turn your CBD oil into an edible substance – such as CBD coffee – to mask the taste and get the same hit of CBD.
There is always a question about whether it’s safe to combine CBD with other substances, especially as there is some evidence that CBD and certain pharmaceuticals don’t work well together. So, what about CBD and caffeine?
Caffeine is a stimulant, meaning it wakes you up and can make you feel jittery and anxious when over-consumed. It can increase your ability to focus and improve short-term memory, which is why so many people drink it on the job. CBD may also promote focus, and in certain serving sizes it can act as an energizer. Does this mean they balance out each other’s negative effects?
Users who get their CBD through CBD coffee report feeling significantly less jittery when their coffee contains CBD compared to when it doesn’t. And if you drink your CBD-infused cup of Joe in the morning, you’ll probably be delighted to find how focused, clear-headed and energized you feel.
It’s generally considered safe to mix CBD and caffeine together, so there’s no need to worry about any negative consequences of doing so.
Tips for making CBD coffee
If you want to make CBD coffee, there’s a few things you need to know. First of all, it is important to infuse your coffee with CBD some time in the morning if you’re doing it to give you an energy boost.
Secondly, you can’t infuse CBD oil into black coffee. Oil is hydrophobic, meaning it won’t mix well with the water in your coffee. If you want to create a CBD-infused coffee, it has to contain creamer, milk, or some fatty substance that the oil can blend with. You simply have to add milk to your coffee if you want to add in CBD.
You also have to consider dosing. Depending on why you’re using CBD, you will need to be using a different strength. As a general rule, you should start at the lowest dose possible and work your way up to find the minimum effective dose. Then, use whatever dose you normally would at a time in your CBD coffee.
Another thing to note is that CBD content may decrease when exposed to heat. At 71˚F, the degradation of CBD will increase, meaning you’re getting less CBD than the dose you put in. Basically, if you want to keep the potency of your CBD up, your coffee can’t be too hot.
Our final tip is to have fun with it. CBD coffees don’t have to be instant coffee granules with CBD dropped in, and CBD lattes don’t have to be your standard latte, either! Try making your own CBD pumpkin spice lattes in the fall, or even try out some caffeine-free alternatives.
Since caffeine is a stimulant that many people try to cut down on for fear of becoming addicted, you might want to steer clear of coffee. Below are two wonderful, coffee-free options for making your own CBD-infused lattes at home.
